Public Health Professor on the COVID-19 Mental Health Crisis

Kathleen Sikkema, professor and chair of the department of sociomedical sciences at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, discusses why the mental health crisis after the coronavirus pandemic will have multiple layers. Frontline health care workers will be dealing with severe mental trauma. Family members who lost loved ones will need to deal with complicated grief after not being able to mourn with others. And people who were at risk of mental health issues before coronavirus won’t have the same coping mechanisms available to them right now.
